Last week, the Cardinals chose the color that best represents their skin and painted their person/persona in Spanish class.
Over the past six weeks, the Cardinals have been learning the Spanish names for some of the clothing we wear! Today each Cardinal continued working on their Person/Persona with their second grade partners! The Cardinals decided how they wanted to dress their Persona and choose their clothing articles. With the Cardinal's second grade buddies' help. The Cardinals traced, cut, designed and glued their creative clothing onto their Persona. Great work friends! Ask your Cardinal what kind of clothing they dressed their Persona in?
Tuesday
Friends had much to say to Michelle even before class started!! The Cardinals listened to the book, The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog! The next book was Amanda & Her Alligator. Michelle read two stories from this book (1) A Surprising Tickle and (2) Surprising Valued!!
Gym class was fun as always!!
Wednesday
Today the Cardinals rolled up their sleeves, put on smocks and helped to paint our house!! It was quite messy after but each Cardinals did a nice job of helping to clean up! Great job Cardinals!
Johanna welcomed the Cardinals into art class. After gathering on the carpet, Johanna showed the Cardinals some projects the other classes throughout AFS were working on: building houses, as well as designing rooms inside the houses. Sticking with that theme, Johanna explained that the Cardinals will also build a house by gluing felt shapes on cardboard pieces. They could also add some color with markers too. Their buildings will collectively make a city. Stay Tuned for next steps!
Thursday
Come take a look at our Cardinals Persona hanging on the wall in the hallway outside the Library across from the Hummingbirds classroom!
Today David joined our class for the day as Eileen was not at school. David is one of our lower school substitute teachers!
Morning Choice Time
These two friends are planning a trip to Disney World!
Friends dancing, giggling and having fun as David played his Ukulele!!
Following morning meeting and snack time, the Cardinals worked in small groups in a literacy workshop. One group worked on listening to letters begin called out and then writing those letters on their chalk board with a small wet sponge. Another group worked on the AT family, sounding out letters and then putting them together to make a word, such as cat, mat sat. While others worked on rhyming and recognizing letters and making letter sounds. The last group worked on putting a floor alphabet puzzle together in the correct order.
Friday
Friends focusing and working patiently while adding many details to their March self-portraits!
Zoey led us into Music class with Keisha as they listened to Dance it Out while dancing with scarves or shaky eggs. Everyone had so much fun! After a moment of silence to get settled after all the movement, the Cardinals sang Jambo and recited the Bunny poem with Keisha.
To warm up for the lesson to come, the Cardinals practiced listening to a clapping pattern. Keisha went first, then the Cardinals repeated it. Amazing!
Following directions of how to move and sit, the Cardinals moved over to the white board to continue reading music and adding instruments to the music! The Cardinals did absolutely incredible! Some Friends played sticks and some Friends played drums. Keisha was thrilled with how well they did! She told the Cardinals that in all her years of teaching, she has never had kids so young read music while playing instruments! Of course at the end of the class, the Cardinals gave themselves a very well deserved Faaaaaaannnnnntastic cheer!! Class ended with the Goodbye song. Ask your Cardinal to show you our fantastic cheer?
Enjoy the weekend!
