Friends beginning to work on an Earth Day project!
Friends used blue and green paint (the water and the land) to make their version of our World. Paint was squirted onto a piece of paper, then folded over and "squished out" to blend the colors. When the paper was unfolded, the Cardinals were amazed at what they saw! After drying, the Cardinals practiced their cutting skills by cutting their world into a circle. They then glued their world to a black piece of construction paper and added yellow stars to the universe. Each Cardinal gave dictation naming how they would help take care of our Earth. Look for the beautiful artwork hanging by the drop off door!
Today we worked on words for our feelings in Spanish class with Alicia. Alicia went over the feelings and then the Cardinals played a game of swatter. Friends listened carefully as a feeling was called out in Spanish. Friends then walked around the room and as Alicia said Canima (Walk) they walked around the classroom and then Alicia said para (stop). The Cardinals stop and make a face that goes along with the word. The Cardinals are starting to do a good job of connecting the Spanish word with feelings! Today was Colby's turn to squeeze la vaca!

Tuesday
Michelle read us the books, Should I Share My Ice Cream by Mo Willems and Did You Eat the Parakeet by Mark Iacolina. Each Cardinal then chose and checked out a book to bring back to our classroom!
The Cardinal cheered as they ran into gym class with Josh! Today the focus was on building and team work! After a demonstration, the Cardinals were given a bag of cups and a partner or two. They worked together to stack the cups as high as they could. They worked very well together - the Cardinals certainly are Master Builders! Then they happily ran and ran and ran to end the class:)

Wednesday
After Meeting for worship with our partners and the rest of lower school. The Cardinals had morning meeting and snack time.
Followed by friends working one on one with a teacher as they worked on counting numbers, number recognition, writing numbers, and mentally thinking about what two digit numbers look like. While friends waited to work with a teacher they explored with duplos, fidget puzzles, sensory tools and giving dictation/drawing in their individual books with a teacher.
Thursday
Friends continued their work of working one on one with teachers. They worked on counting numbers, recognition numbers, writing numbers and mentally thinking about what two digit numbers look like.
Renata led us into music class as we listened to "Cachita" by Ska Cubano. Friends warmed up by playing the drums, dancing with shaker eggs. The Cardinals and Keisha beautifully sang "Jambo!" for the Hello song. Keisha taught the Cardinals a beehive chant: BZZZZZZ Here is the beehive, but where are the bees? Hidden away where nobody sees. Watch and you'll see them come out of the hive. One, two, three, four, five! BZZZZZZ
The Cardinals then scattered like polka dots and sang the song "Head, Shoulders Baby" with the actions. It is unbelievably adorable!! The smiles while singing were contagious.
The Cardinals then played Jack in the Box. They crouched down and listened to a chant until it was time to POP up when they heard, "Will you come out?" and answer "Yes, I will!" and then bounce up and down. So fun!
Friends practiced singing, "Over in the Meadow." They are doing a great job learning all the words. Class ended by singing, "The Goodbye Song."
We took our work outside on this beautiful day. Friends played on the field and two or three at a time worked on making observational drawings of Springtime. The Cardinal took a close look at their surroundings and drew what they saw. Many friends drew trees with flowers, blue sky, people, cars or anything else that was of interest to them!

Friday
Time with our second grade partners!
The Cardinals engage in a Letter hunt activity! Each friend finds a letter, tells the class what it is, what sound it makes and then a word or two that begins with their letter and if a friend/s did not know another friend/s or we work as a class to figure it out. Great work Cardinals!! At the end, we used the letters to see how many words we could create. We stopped at bear because our camera needed charging. We came up with 13 words from our 14 letters!!
We had many request to play musical chairs!!
Have a great weekend!
