Our Cardinals were very excited as they arrived at school in their
pajamas! Many conversations started even before jackets were taken off! The Cardinals have been counting down to this day on our Hundred Chart from the first day of school. Early this morning, we began decorating the classroom to begin our celebration of the 100 days of school!! Followed by making individual 100 day crowns, coloring the number 100 and counting objects by 10s to 100.
Friends helping to mix our pancake batter!
While the Cardinals were in Spanish class, a teacher began making pancakes for our special 100 day snack. Friends chose which kind of warm pancakes they wanted, as some were made with chocolate chips. We also had strawberries, blueberries, grapes and yogurt. Friends started with 2 pancakes and fruit, however most Cardinals had 4 -5 pancakes! Yummy!!
After our special snack, the Cardinals each came up with a way for us to move our bodies, as we count by 10s to 100 for each movement. Here is what our Cardinals came up with:
Whelan - Skipping
Lydia - Flying in your spot
Isa - Move like a snake
Julian - Running in place
Willow - Whisper while counting to 100
Masai - Make big step
Annie - Hopping on one foot
Grant - Clapping
Zoey - Make tree post
Renata - Jump up and down
Lake - Shake your hips
Ellery - Do jumping jacks
Colby - Run around
Wren - Jump up and down
This week, Annie is our Hundred Chart helper and today she placed the number 100 in the 10s column to complete our countdown to 100 days of school!! Ask your Cardinal what three numbers make up 100?
The Cardinals shared some of their 100 days of school pancakes with Andrea, Tricia, Alicia and our second grade buddies!
Ask your Cardinal what they like most about the 100th Day of School?
The Cardinals also celebrated the 100th day of school with their second grade buddies. Together they took part in a fun and exciting activity- going on a duck search! There were 100 ducks hidden around the Lower School hallway, and the Cardinals worked with their buddies to find these ducks. Some ducks were tucked away low to the floor, while others were perched high up, so friends had to use their best detective skills to spot them. But there was a fun twist- friends had to waddle like a duck and quack when they found a number! However, there was one BIG problem: the 100th duck is still missing! So, if you're walking in the Lower School hallway, keep your eyes peeled- maybe you can spot the elusive 100th duck!
Tuesday
The Cardinals working on a journal entry titled, "What did you like about our 100th day of school? and Why?
Michelle read us the books Pigs Make Me Sneeze by Mo Willems. The Cardinals really liked and enjoyed making the sneezing sounds throughout this book. The next book was called Elephants Cannot Dance by Mo Willems. Friends noticed this book had rhyming words and was funny! Each Cardinal picked and checked out a book to bring back to our classroom! Ask your Cardinal which book they checked out?
In gym class the focus was on sharing the equipment and using the equipment to play new games. The Cardinals practiced kicking the ball and throwing the fluffy balls to each other. Some Cardinals even practiced their volleyball skills by batting the ball in the air with their hand. Imaginations were sparked as the Cardinals made "ice cream cones" using a ball and an upside down cone. Lots of running and lots of fun was had by all:)

Wednesday
Early this morning the Cardinals walked over to the meetinghouse for meeting for worship with their second grade partners! On the way over and back it was really nice seeing these friends interact and having conversations!
After our morning meeting and snack time, each friend gave an idea as to what color to paint our house! Here are the colors that were picked 2 or more times - 3 blue, 2 red, 2 black, 3 purple, 2 green. And so we voted as a class on the colors blue and purple - 5 friends chose blue and 9 friends chose purple and so the color of our house will be PURPLE!! Here are the colors the Cardinals choose:
Colby - Orange
Wren - Blue
Lake - Pink
Lydia - Red
Zoey - Green
Renata - Red
Ellery - Green
Isa - Black
Annie - Purple
Grant - Blue
Masai - Black
Willow - Blue
Whelan - Dark Purple
Julian - Purple
After each friend gave their color choice, they decided where inside our house they wanted to hang their detailed drawing to decorate our house! Great work Cardinals.
The Cardinals explored with different types of shapes in art class today. Friends used cardboard, felt, glue and small brushes to create their work!
Thursday
Early this morning the Cardinals began preparing vegetables for our soup. Friends helped to dice celery, carrots and potatoes. We sauteed our diced onion and celery. Followed by adding our carrots, potatoes, vegetable broth and water. We let these ingredients cook before adding mixed vegetables and alphabet pasta. Soon our soup was really for tasting! Each Cardinal tried our soup and a few friends had second helpings!!
Our second grade partners came to our class to go look for the missing 100 duck (from the 100th day of school). We took a walk to the lower school front entrance and what we saw was the biggest duck we have ever seen!!! Friends were in awe with smiles, giggles and pure joy!!
Friday
After Spanish class, morning meeting and snack time. The Cardinals had some special guest come to visit! It was our second grade partners!! These two groups were very excited to see and be with each other! Our partners read books to us before we all headed outside for some fresh air and large motor fun! Ask your Cardinal what story their partner read to them! What a very fun time we had!!
Last week, we celebrated Zoey's 5th birthday! Zoey's mom Belinda and dad Kerwyn came in and read two of Zoey's favorite books from home!! Zoey also brought in cupcakes to share and gift bags for all her friends! Thank you, Zoey, for sharing your special day with us! Thank you, Kerwyn and Belinda for reading to us!
Masai's mom Amanda, Dad Mikael and sister Maelle came in and celebrated culture, history and heritage as they read two of Masai's favorite books. Thank you, Masai and Maelle for sharing your mom and dad with us!
Have a Peaceful Weekend!!
