Friends working with popsicle sticks to create letters of the alphabet as they are called out!

After our morning work in Spanish class with Alicia, the Cardinals did an incredible job of remembering the Spanish words for some of the clothing we wear. Friends were very excited to play the swatter game with the very big swatters. Friends listened carefully as Alicia called out clothing in Spanish such as dress- vestido,  skirt- falda, shirt camisa and pants - pantalón. The Cardinals then two at a time tapped on a picture they think matched the word being called with a swatter. Today it was Isa's turn to squeeze la vaca!

The first graders are presently studying Heroes. Each student chose a hero and along with their study, they made that person into a stamp for their post office part of their hero's museum. Early this morning, some Cardinals and a teacher went to buy some stamps. Each stamp cost 10 cents. At the end of their study, first graders will count the money and  donate it to an organization of their choosing! The stamps the Cardinals bought will be used to put on letters they gave dictation for or received help to write words for letters to friends/people of their choosing in school!

Tuesday

Michelle read us the book, Douglas needs Glasses by Ged Adamson. Ask your Cardinal what they like about this book? As always friends really enjoyed picking out their own book!

The Cardinals focus on soccer in gym class today! Friends ran while kicking balls and maneuvering the ball around the gym. Some friends opt to create their own obstacle course. What a fun time our Cardinals had!!  Ask your Cardinal what they like most about gym class today!!

On this warm and lovely March day that felt more like late Spring!! The Cardinals spend extra time outside enjoying the fresh air, each other and large motor fun!!

Wednesday

The Cardinals began the day with meeting for worship in the meeting house with our partners and all of lower schoolers.

Today each Cardinal chose a stamp and placed it on their envelope. Soon, it was time to take our letters to the first grade mailbox and off our letters will go to our second grade partners!!

Today the Cardinals participated in a letter hunt literacy activity. In which uppercase letters were placed on or under a table or in a chair at the back of the classroom. Each friend, one at a time, got a chance to pick a letter of their choice, bring it back to the group, say what letter it was and the sound it makes. If a friend was not able to do any of the above another friend or friends worked together to help.  Friends were also challenged to say a word or three that their letter began with. When this work was finished, we used the letters to see how many words we could create. We worked together and came up with 31 words! Great Job Cardinals!!

Many more words could have been formed from our 14 letters however, we ran out of time and will continue more letter hunts!!

The Cardinals went to Art class with Johanna where they continued working on their buildings from last week. Before glueing the buildings onto a large piece of white paper, the Cardinals named different types of lines that Johanna drew on a white board. Then some Cardinals had the opportunity to tell the other Cardinals what line they could draw as background for the buildings.  Many Cardinals followed the directions beautifully!  Everyone was pleased with how great their tall buildings looked on their colorful paper!

Thursday

Annie led us into music class with Keisha. After warming up our bodies and voices! Friends really liked the song Marshmallow Laser Soaring Through the Stars Delivering the Rainbows. Many Cardinals asked for this song next time (Keisha said she will try to remember). We sang our hello song, followed by doing our chant for They is a Cobbler Down The Street Mending Shoes. Friends went over tee and ta ta music notes. Then Keisha introduced us to a wiggly line that means rest, and one line that means pause and two straight lines close together means stop in music notes. Keisha played the drums while friends needed to listen to the sound and make a movement that matched the drum's beats!! Wow, if only you could see how amazing our Cardinals were in music class!!!

Our class discussion today was to try and figure out a name for our purple house. Here are the suggestions each Cardinal gave:

Julian - Cardinals
Lake - Purple Grape
Wren - Walter
Masai - Construction House

Zoey -  Cardinal House

Friday

In Spanish class, the Cardinals finished up their study of clothing by playing a swatter game with the very big swatter! Alicia told the Cardinals how very proud she is of them and all the learning they have done!!  Then it was time for Eileen and Beverly to play the swatter game as the Cardinals called out the names of clothing in Spanish!! Fantastic Job, Cardinal!!  Today it was Renata's turn to squeeze la vaca!

Before taking a walk outside and playing on the playground, the Cardinals took part in playing the game Twister.  Ask your Cardinal how they played this game?
