Paint Project, Outdoor Fun, Visit from Erica, Playing Board Games and More....

  Monday

Alicia in Spanish class continued the work of counting with friends. Today she used Unifix cubes to help with this learning. Alicia placed  cubes in front of friends, then she called out numbers 1-5. Friends needed to put out that number of cubes. Friends needed a little help or did most of this work independently. Great job Cardinals!!  We finished up class by Alicia calling out numbers and friends making that amount of footsteps. Ask your Cardinal to count from 1-5 in Spanish?  Today it was Julian's turn to squeeze la vaca!

                     Monday morning independent choice time!

We were happy it was not raining and even more delighted to have some outside unstructured time!

Tuesday

Library class with Michelle began with the Cardinals returning their books! Today Michelle read us the book Henry AT Home. Friends then chose and checked out a book! Ask your Cardinal what book they picked?

Soon after, we were off to gym class with Josh. Today our focus was on coordination and following one/two step directions while engaging in large motor fun!

Wednesday

The Cardinals worked in small groups as they individually created an Autumn tree full of the beautiful colors of green, red, orange, and yellow. They looked out the window to see how full the trees were with leaves now and we talked about how they will fall to the ground. Friends used sponges to create their masterpiece. The skills used were following directions, eye-hand coordination, fine motor and language skills!  More Cardinals will design their work on Friday!

Erica, our lower school learning specialist, came to visit our class and to get to know our Cardinal friends. She read an interactive book called Jabari Tries by Gaia Cornwall to us. First Erica asked, "If you could invent anything what would it be?" Friends had much to say:

Isa - What the cops make, a robot.

Willow - A thing that takes all the pollution from the world.

Julian - A big big circle

Wren - A big thing that feeds all the cows.

Annie - I hear my mommy voice.

Erica then showed the book and asked friends to predict what they think the book was about?

Colby - Guy

Renata - Building

Ellery - He going to fly.

Whelan - A dude.

Erica began reading and along the way Jabari's machine broke. She asked friends how do you think Jabari feels?

Zoey - My mom ask me to help.

Lydia - Something I cry and cry long time and then I feel better.

Grant -  Sad

Erica finished the book and asked friends what do you do when you're sad, mad, upset, angry or frustrated? The Cardinals had much to say, along with Erica we all practiced taking breaths to try to calm our bodies and using words to name how we are feeling. Great work Cardinals!!

In Art class today the Cardinals looked at a famous painting by the artist James Rizzy.  They observed all the shapes in the buildings - noticing circles, squares, hearts, triangles, rectangles and diamonds.  The buildings all had faces too!  The Cardinals then went to the tables to create their own version of the picture - using glue sticks, rectangle building shapes, and foam stickers and a marker.  Ask your Cardinal about the facial expressions they noticed in Rizzy's work as well as what expressions they made in their own work?

Thursday

School Closed

Friday

Today Keisha was not here for music class and so the Cardinals created their own music class. We walked in and followed the movement and action directions of a teacher. We then sang our favorite songs as a group. Some friends chose the songs we should sing and others sang songs solo to the group! This was all so great as it showed self confidence and pride!! Ask your Cardinal what they did in our music class?

After morning meeting and snack, we headed outside for some unstructured time! Followed by coming back in, continuing our work on creating Autumn trees and reading lots and lots of library books!!

                                     Enjoy the weekend!!
