Today we celebrated Masai's 3rd birthday! Masai brought in cupcakes to share! Masai's mom Amanda and dad Mikael came to celebrate as well! Mikael read us the book, Dino-Racing. Thank you, Masai, for sharing your birthday with us!! We hope you enjoyed the rest of your special day! Happy 3rd birthday Masai!!
Today we welcome Keila to our Cardinal room. She will be a teacher in our classroom in the late mornings and then extended day. Welcome Keila !!
Tuesday
Friends working on their October self portraits!
The Cardinals returned their library books, listened to the story, How to Talk like a Bear by Charlie Grandy read by Michelle and checked out a book to bring back to the classroom! Ask your Cardinal what they liked about the book Michelle read?
Josh met us at the gym door and welcomed us in. Today we worked with small balls, scoopers and buckets. The object was to use the scoopers to scoop up balls and place them in the individual buckets that were given! What a blast the Cardinals had!! We all then did a great job of helping to clean up the many balls. Ask your Cardinal what did you like about gym class?
Friends taking a closer look at the scare crows created by our lower school students over this past weekend!
Wednesday
The Cardinals had Meeting for Worship in the music room with the Catbirds and Hummingbirds classes. We all settled into silence (great job friends!!). Followed by a teacher reading the book called Somewhere Today by Shelly Moore Thomas. The book was about some of the simple ways in which any child or adult can make the world a better place! After we returned to our classroom, we asked our Cardinals, "How can you help someone or the world?" Here is what friends had to say:
Colby - Superhero mommy and daddy
Wren - Help people do things that they like to do.
Zoey -Like pick up trash.
Lydia - Help mommy build things.
Renata - Tell people get out the street cause cars coming.
Grant - Play
Ellery - Send letters to my friends.
Annie - Help people all time.
Masai - You go give gifts someone.
Willow - Care for each other.
Whelan - Give medicine.
The Cardinals had fun in art class looking for shapes in their world. They picked and identified shapes from a bucket of shapes and then watched for them in the read aloud book called, "Shape Up, Construction Trucks!" The Cardinals then had a very important lesson in scissor safety - how to hold them, how to walk with them, and how to cut away from their hand so that they don't cut their hands by accident. They then practiced cutting and gluing their shapes on a piece of construction paper. Good news! Many Cardinals received their "Cutting License." today. We will continue to practice!!
Thursday
Friends continuing to work on their October self-portraits!
We had morning meeting followed by music class. Zoey led us in and we warmed up to the song Dinosaurs Stomp, this time we acted out the movements in the song. The Cardinals really enjoyed this. After our hello song Jambo, Keisha read us one of our class favorite books, called Hey, Little Ant. This book has become one of our must read on a daily basis with many conversations and discussions. The back of the book has music notes and so one of our friends asked Keisha to play the music notes for us. Today, Keisha began to teach us how to sing the song to the story as she played the guitar! Ask your Cardinal what happens in the book Hey, Little Ant?
The Cardinals drawing with chalk outside of Andrea and Tricia's office!

Friday
The Cardinals will attend our lower school assembly tomorrow. Followed by snack time, morning meeting, Spanish class, and a nature walk. Friends will collect different types and size leaves for an art activity. Back in the classroom friends will work together to sort them before heading outside for large motor fun!
Have a wonderful weekend!!
