Monday
In Spanish class, friends continued learning colors in Spanish. Today we played a game of swatter in which two friends at a time listened and then found the colors that was called out by Alicia, nice work Cardinals!! Today it was Masai's turn to squeeze la vaca!
After snack and Morning meeting as a class, we had a conversation about getting a small classroom pet. We gave friends a choice of a Goldfish or a Betta fish. The fish choice was made as we have a friend who is allergic to fur animals. We showed friends what a Gold and a Betta fish looked like. We then asked friends to take a few minutes and think about which fish they might want as a pet. We then asked friends which one they chose and why? Here's what friends had to say:
Whelan - Betta - cause it red
Isa - Betta - it look good
Julian - Gold - I like goldfish
Willow - Betta - cause it look beautiful
Masai - Betta - it moving
Annie - Betta - I like it
Grant - Gold - fish
Renata - Betta - It has two colors
Ellery - Gold - I like it
Zoey - Gold - I like the color
Lydia - Betta - Well, I like both fish
Lake - Betta - It swim
Wren - Gold - I look so nice
Colby - Gold - I don't know
And so it looks like we will be getting a Betta fish for our classroom pet. However, before we get our pet we need to have a conversation as to, "How do we take care of our pet? and what kind of home should our pet live in?" Stay Tune!!
Tuesday
After returning our library books, we listened and interacted as Michelle read us the book, The Hallo Wiener. Friends then chose and checked out a book!
In gym class friends chose from basketballs, snowballs, soccer balls and foam frisbees to explore manipulations of circular motions.
Colby celebrated a very special day yesterday! Today Colby brought in cupcakes to celebrate his 3rd birthday with his friends! Colby's mom Dana and Dad Josh also joined us. We sang Happy Birthday to Colby and thanked him for sharing his birthday with us!! Happy Birthday Colby!!
Wednesday
The Cardinals joined the Hummingbirds and Catbirds classes in the music room for Meeting for Worship! We settled into silence followed by listening to the book There Was A Tree by Rachel Isadora and singing This Little Light of Mine. Back in our classroom, we got our jackets and went on a walk to find Fall leaves.
After Morning meeting, Erica ,our lower school learning specialist, came in and read us the book Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin. Erica read the title of the book and then asked friends to raise a hand if they like Tacos? Throughout the story Erica asked friends to make predictions and to answer questions.
- What do you think this book will be about? Tacos, I read this book. before.
- What do you think Tacos smell like? good, like crunch.
- What is salsa? - You eat chips, my mom put it on chips.
- What did the boy in the story do? - make a mistake, put spicy food in the dragon's salsa.
- What will happen to the dragon? - fire and smoke coming out the dragon mouth and bellies.
- Why are cheese, lettuce and tomatoes good for Tacos? - healthy food, not spicy.
- How can you tell the dragon is excited about the taco party? - smiling, drawing a taco on the Calendar.
- Are the dragons going to like the tacos with jalapenos? - No, too spicy.
- What is going to happen to the dragons if they eat the spicy tacos? - Fire, smoke come out the dragons.
- What is going to happen to the house? - get damaged.
- What are the dragons going to do? - Help rebuild the house they burned down by accident.
Erica then gave friends instructions to think of one, two or more things that happened in the story and draw it. Friends used language skills, thinking skills, recall skills, comprehension skills, and visual skills to complete this work.

Thursday
Today we began an art activity with the leaves we collected. First the Cardinals looked at all the different shapes and colors of the leaves and then compared how the front side is a bit smoother than the back side of the leaf. The Cardinals then practiced using their finger muscles to push hard on a crayon to make beautiful leaf rubbings using the colors of Autumn - brown, green, orange, yellow, and red. They loved seeing the "magic" of their leaf coming through to their paper. Stay Tune for more!

Friends cutting stripes of paper, building with Legos and Magna-tiles as they work on fine motor skills.
The Cardinals had some fun as a group playing with the balloons. They had to sit in a circle and pass a balloon to the friend sitting next to them while the music was playing. When the music stopped, it was fun to see who was "stuck" holding the balloon! We made it a bit more challenging by adding two, then three, then FOUR balloons to the circle! The Cardinals really had to focus on where the balloons were so they could pass it without all the balloons catching up to each other! It was impressive to watch how the Cardinals could focus and help each other out!
Spanish class continued with the Cardinals going over the basic colors in Spanish and then playing Camina, camina, camina (walk, walk, walk). When Alicia said, "Para!"(Stop), the Cardinals pointed to the color anywhere in the classroom that she called out. Alicia then asked friends what their favorite color was and told friends how to say their color in Spanish. Ask your Cardinal to say their favorite color in Spanish? Today it was Renata's turn to squeeze la vaca!
Friday
The Cardinals enjoyed music class today! We began with Grant leading us into class. Keisha showed friends how to twist as they listened to the music of Chubby Checker. What a great way to get our bodies warmed up! After our hello song, we sang and did the movements to Turn Cinnamon Turn and Shake and Stop. We also practice singing and acting out the beginning parts of Hey, Little Ant song!
Beautiful weather for rest time outside!! Friends noticed there were no clouds in the sky, birds flying and singing, wind blowing, cars and trucks going by, squirrels running around and people walking by!!
Have a great weekend!
