Monday
This Morning during our Spanish class, the fire alarm went off for an unannounced practice fire drill. The Cardinals were in a different space that was not our classroom but did an INCREDIBLE job following Alicia's directions for getting outside quickly. Once outside the Cardinals continued to follow directions and got to our spot. On the way back in to continue Spanish class, friends were overheard saying: "We be quiet, We go so fast, I did this before, I wasn't scared at all, I tell my mom and dad we did good job, Me too". As we walked through the lower school front door, a Cardinal said to Tricia, "It was just a practice drill, everything is good. Tricia replied. "Thanks for telling me". We finished up Spanish class by playing a game of Camina, Camina, Camina (walk, walk, walk). When Alicia said, "Para!"(Stop), friends found the colors that were being called out. Today it was Whelan's turn to squeeze la vaca!

The Cardinals headed back to class and had snack time followed by working on our fine motor skills. Friends cut strips of paper into small pieces with scissors, ripped big paper into small pieces and finished up their leaf rubbings. As they continued to strengthen finger muscles, eye-hand coordination and focus skills.
Tuesday
After morning choice time, morning meeting and snack time the Cardinals were off to Library class. Today friends listened to two stories The Frustrating Book and What's Your Sound Hound the Hound read by Michelle. Friend had many questions and comments. After picking and checking a book out, we went back to our classroom to explore our books a little more. Teachers read a few of the chosen books before we headed off to the gym. Ask your Cardinal to tell you about the book Michelle read?
Josh was not here for gym class today but the Cardinals had a fun time making up our own gym class. A teacher pretended to be Josh as she spoke to the Cardinals in a "Josh voice". Friends thought this was funny as they giggled. We warmed up by running back and forth across the gym two times before exploring with soft frisbee, bean bags and balls.
Friends having a fun time on Nourie Green field here on campus enjoying this warm beautiful October day! Friends played chasing games and duck duck goose before heading in for a water break and then to the playground.
Wednesday
Friends walked down the hallways and into the music room for Meeting for Worship with our EC classes. Friends settled their bodies in silence as they listened to the book Each Breath A Smile by Sister Susan. We broke our silence by singing before heading back to our classroom.
We read the book Tropical Fish about Betta fish. The Cardinals then continued the conversation about our soon to be class pet. Today the question was, "How should we take care of our Betta fish?"
Here is what friends had to say:
Wren - We could show the fish our stuffies.
Lake - Lot of water in big tank.
Colby - Put fish in tank.
Lydia - Make silly faces at the fish and make it smile.
Zoey - Buy Betta fish food from the fish store.
Ellery - Make it smile, I draw picture of fish.
Renata - Put it in a tank and shrink it down with lots of bubble.
Grant - Fish.
Annie - Put water in tank and put fish in and you take care of it and make it smile and happy.
Masai - Put lot water so the fish can swim around and round to the bottom.
Willow - Make the fish comfortable in medium water.
Julian - I would be nice to the fish by singing to the fish.
Isa - I would read book to the fish.
Whelan - We need water and things.
Soon it was time to have some unstructured time outside before headed back inside for Art class. For Art class with Johanna, the Cardinals collected items from nature - leaves, sticks, acorns, and more! Johanna showed some examples of what she created with the items. The Cardinals noticed that the acorns looked like a truck's wheels and that the acorn on the leaf flower might be a bee.
The Cardinals listened to the story, "Leaf Man" by Lois Ehlert and identified items that the Leaf Man blew past on his travels. Everything was made of leaves!
The Cardinals then went to the tables to create a picture using what we collected. Some Cardinals made a truck, a railroad track, a fish, Sonic, and a snowman. They really enjoyed painting the glue on the cardboard and then carefully placing their items. What a clever group!
Thursday
The Cardinals always enjoy going to Music class with Keisha. They walked in and danced with scarves and shaky eggs to the song "Fireflies" by Jazzy Ash. What an incredible musician if you'd like to check her out. She gives off New Orleans Jazz vibes.
Friends beautifully sung the song "Jambo!" together. Amazing! And then they practiced their poem about the bunny in the ground. Every week, progress is so obvious with how much friends can remember.
Keisha read the book, "The Five Little Pumpkins" to the Cardinals. She taught them some movements to go with the song. Ask your Cardinal about the song - friends know the words so well. It was great to see the actions with it as Keisha made music with the temple block. Friends really enjoyed this book and movements and wanted to do it again and again!
The class favorite book, "Hey, Little Ant" set to music was next! Friends acted out the first stanza. Ask your Cardinal about the song.
The Cardinals gave themselves the "Faaaaannnntastic" fan and gave each other Shine for such a fabulous class! The class ended with a group sing a long song of "Goodbye - See You Next Time!"

We ran into Josh on our way to cheer on our middle school students at field day!
The Cardinals cheering "Go White, Go Blue!!"
We are looking forward to talking with you at Conferences tomorrow!
