In Library class, Michelle read us the book A Big Bed for Little Snow by Grace Lin. The book was about a little boy with a funny imagination and the things he did. Friends enjoyed picking and checking out their own books!
As we entered the gym, Josh was spotted and the Cardinals ran to him while chanting his name!! Today friends focus on throwing, rolling and jumping as they worked with hula hoops, small ring toss, bean bags, soft frisbees and small soft balls.
Today, the Cardinals also worked on their January self-portraits!

Some Cardinals working on the first journal entry for the new year!
After some running around time downstairs, it was time for Art class with Johanna. Class started with Johanna reading a book about all the different shades of colors. The Cardinals then did a matching game by matching the different shades to paint colors. Of course, the Cardinals did a fabulous job!
Then it was off to the other tables to work our magic with colors. The Cardinals used magic markers to color all over on a special paper and then used a pipette to carefully suck up some water and then gently drip it onto their colors. They watched as the colors ran together. Some Friends also learned the lesson of what would happen if too much water was dripped : all the colors disappeared!
Friends enjoyed the magic of Colors:)
Thursday
Friends continuing their Journal work.
Alicia welcomed us into Spanish class with hugs and wishes for a happy New Year! After our greeting, Alicia told us about a special event that will happen tomorrow Friday, January 10th. She said the entire AFS community will celebrate Three Wise Kings, if they want too. Alicia told us that most Spanish speaking countries celebrate Three Kings Day and in part of the celebration people leave their shoes outside for special gifts. The Cardinals were very excited when Alicia said that if friends wanted to, they too could celebrate. Alicia read us the book called The Three Kings. The Cardinals had much to say and made many connections. Today it was Lake's turn to squeeze la vaca!
Friday
Today was our special all school celebration of Three Kings Day. All lower school students that wanted to participate in taking off their shoes and placing them outside their classroom door. Friends then carried on with their work inside the classrooms with the doors closed. After 20 minutes students went out and got their shoes. A sweet treat, stickers and other goodies were left inside. The Cardinals were very excited about their special treats. Each Cardinals has their special treats in their bag to bring home! The Cardinals enjoyed walking around for a while with no shoes!!
Lydia, as our line leader this week, led us into the music room, we danced and warmed up to the song Pajama Time by Philadelphia Chickens! The Cardinals carried their excitement from the Three Kings Day into Music class and had much to share with Keisha! Followed by singing our hello song Jambo as Keisha played her guitar. We then revisit our Music animals and the kind of voices they use. Keisha asks friends if they remembered the voice of each animal as she holds it up to use that animal's tone of voice to speak. Nice work Cardinals!! Friends then made a big circle while standing and sang and made the movement to the song Loo by Loo. We headed back to our classroom after singing our goodbye song!
