The Cardinals working on a journal entry titled, "What do you like to do in warm weather? Why?"
Many Cardinals greeted Alicia at the Spanish room door by saying "Hola Alicia" We then went over shapes and colors all at once. Alicia read the book My Shapes Mis Formas and as friends called out the color in Spanish they also named the shapes connected to the color. We then did a San Valentín game in which the Cardinals needed to figure out which color was missing. ¿Qué color falta? (What color is missing). Alicia placed a few colors in front of her. Friends then needed to close their eyes. Alicia covered the colors and took one away. The Cardinals opened their eyes and then guessed which color was missing. Job well done Cardinals!! Today it was Zoey's turn to squeeze la vaca!
Today our long awaited Betta fish arrived in our classroom. The Cardinals were very excited. It was amazing to watch and listen as friends reminded each other how we care for our fish. Before our fish went in the tank. It spent time at each table while the Cardinals ate lunch! Friends really enjoyed this!! Stay tuned for what's next!
Tuesday
The Cardinals listened to the book, A Library book for Bear read by Michelle. At the end of the book many friends talked about if they like pickles or not. Followed by picking and checking out a book!
In gym class the Cardinals worked on making pizza. Each friend got a soft frisbee and a soft ball. Josh demonstrated by tossing the ball up and then holding the frisbee flat with two hands while looking to see where the ball was in the air. He then caught the ball on the frisbee. The Cardinals did a great job with this task. Friends also had some time to independently explore.
Friends playing in leaves on the way back from gym class!
The Cardinals visit Masai's dad (Mikael) and Lydia's mom Mary Anne in Upper school.
The Cardinals testing out the bigger kids chairs!!
Wednesday
During our Meeting for Worship, Andrece from the Hummingbird's class read the book, We are Branches by Joyce Sidman. The Cardinal's class sang, This Pretty Planet to the Catbirds and Hummingbirds classes. Followed by all classes and teachers singing, This Little Light of Mine along with Raji playing the guitar. We then settled back into silence and ended with blowing out the candle!
The Cardinals engaged in a math workshop in which all the activities were math related. The first station involved rolling a dice and figuring out the number it landed on by counting the little dots on the dice. Friends then need to find the actual number that correlates with the number on the dice and put a cube on it. The second station was identifying numbers 1-5 or 1-10 by standing in front of a number and then saying what number it was. Friends also used small rocks to match the number they had. The last station consists of friends beginning the process of writing numbers 0-4 by saying the number and then tracing them.

The Cardinals focused on strengthening their hand muscles today in art class. Johanna gave each Cardinal a chunk of clay along with all types of tools in which friends could roll, squish, cut, scrape, or pound their clay. This week was for discovering the feel of the clay in their hands and experimenting with the tools and shapes. Next week, the Cardinals will make something to be dried and eventually be taken home. It was great seeing and hearing some of their ideas: snowmen, Mickey Mouse, a girl, a tower, as well as some good old fashioned pancakes :). Ask your Cardinal what will you make with your clay?
How many Cardinals can the kitchen area fit? All 14 Cardinals and they socialized beautifully!!
In Spanish class we started with a greeting from Alicia. The Cardinals responded with "Bien", "No bien", "Asi-asi", or "Hambrienta"(hungry). Then there was a moment of silence with the singing bowl after everyone said they were "Listo., Lista., or Liste`." (Ready). The Cardinals went over the calendar in Spanish before answering the question: ?Cuantos dias hemos estado en la escuela? (How many days have we been at school?) Amazing work!
Alicia reviewed shapes and colors while reading the book, "Formas" (Shapes). The Cardinals continued onward by playing the class favorite game of Swatter!
We had a class discussion to figure out what name to call our pet fish. Here is what friends said!
Wren - Walter
Colby - Betta
Lake - See Ya
Lydia - Blowy
Zoey - Pippy
Whelan - Book
Grant - Betta
Ellery - Elas
Renata - Wild Star
Annie - Betta
Julian - Squishy
Masai - Fishy

The Cardinal all came up with very cute names. We talked with friends and explained that 3 friends chose the same name. While other friends chose different names and so our class pet's name is BETTA !! We then fed Betta and watched as Betta swam from the bottom of the tank to the top to eat. The Cardinals were amazed as they watched Betta eat and how Betta opened its mouth. They giggled as bubbles came out of Betta's mouth!
