Today Alicia read us the book Max and the Talent Show after our morning job in Spanish class. The book was about not being a bully and how important it is to be kind to each other, to not judge people because of how they look, talk or act. The Cardinals had much to say about this book such as, "Filling/dipping someone's bucket (being kind), how someone made them feel, what they do when sad, using kind words, get mom or dad or a teacher to help, using your words and tell people what you don't like". Our Cardinals are learning to stand up for themselves!

The Cardinals were very eager to make a new batch of playdough today. Friends voted between the colors blue and red, 4 friends voted red, 10 friends voted blue and so our new batch of playdough is BLUE.  Ask your Cardinal what did you do to help make the new play dough?

Today was our first day of Show&Tell. Our Cardinals were VERY VERY excited, often asking when it was going to happen! The presenters each get to sit on the big chair! After each Cardinal present, friends will get a chance to ask the presenters questions about their item/s. At the end each presenter gets a round of applause! Grant and Colby shared today!!

Tuesday

What wonderful social skills the Cardinals are all developing. Friends were seen and heard solving conflicts independently and with some teacher's help. Friends used a respectful tone of voice and a few needed to take deep slow breathes before trying to solved conflicts. Friends compromised, took turns and even happily independently decided to work in another learning center with different peers after a conflict was solved!

Michelle read the book My Grammie's House by Lana Button today in Library class. Ask your Cardinal why did you choose this book? Please see pictures below!

It was pretty chilly on our walk over to gym class but most Cardinals did not mind as they were very excited for gym class. The Cardinals practiced their hockey skills and some balancing skills with the lollipops, hockey sticks and balls. They had fun getting out some energy and batting the balls all over the gym!  A good time had by all!

Wednesday

Johanna introduced the Cardinals to some abstract art done by the Spanish artist Joan Miro.  Friends looked at some pictures of his work and "found" things in the pictures - like stars, snowmen, robots, people, birds, etc..  Then the Cardinals went to the tables to create their own abstract piece of art.  Johanna guided the Cardinals by telling them to draw something round and then something round again anywhere on the paper.  She then suggested maybe making some of those round shapes into people or whatever they see for themselves.  They added some color to their work too!  The room was alive with the excited sounds of "Look, what I drew!" They really are a creative group!

Thursday

Today friends began the day by working on a journal entry titled, "What do you like to do in the rain? Why?"

Today Colby led us into music class. We warmed up to En la Bas by Jazzy Ash.  The Cardinals had so much fun banging on the drums and shaking their eggs!  After singing a new "Hello!" song: "Little Wheel Turning in my Heart," Keisha announced that today was going to be a Games and Singing Day:). She had friends scatter like polka dots and then taught us a new song:  "Head, Shoulders Baby!" It was really cute listening to the Cardinals sing and do the actions to the song.  Then it was time to gather in a circle again and listen to the book Over in the Meadow.  Keisha and the Cardinals beautifully sang the words in the book - recognizing rhyming words and the numbers 1 - 10. Class ended with all Friends singing "Peace Like a River" in which the Cardinals did an absolutely fabulous job!  (My eyes even filled up with happy tears!)  All Cardinals walked out happily from Music class!

The Cardinals working on math in groups. Friends worked on recognizing numbers, counting, matching objects to numbers, one to one correspondence, what number comes before/after and between numbers, for example before 3 is 2 - after 15 is 16 -  between 7 and 9 is 8.

                                     Show&Tell sharing!

Friday

This morning we had a Lower School assembly in the auditorium. The Kindergarten classes performed an amazing play for the whole lower school about teamwork, kindness, including others and an important piece of not leaving one another out in play! Great job, Kindergarteners!!

Alicia began reading the book, The Way I Feel to the Cardinals. This book was about feelings and so friends began learning words in Spanish for their feelings such as silly - Chistoso or Chistosa, scared - Asustado or Asustado, disappointed- Decepciondo or Decepcionada, happy - Feliz, sad- Triste, angry - Enojado or Enojada, thankful - Agradecido or Agradecida, frustrated - Frustrado or Frustrada. We will see what other words we learn next class.  Stay tuned! Today it was Ellery's turn to squeeze la vaca!

The Rain held off for a little and so our Cardinals got to have some outside fun! We came in and enjoyed a few rounds of musical chairs.

                            Enjoy the weekend!!
