The Cardinals in Resource Classes - Spanish, Library, PE, Art, Music and More.....

Welcome to the First Full Edition of the Cardinal's Blog!

Monday

Alicia, our Spanish teacher came to our classroom for our first Spanish class! Alicia introduced herself and then went around the circle and asked each Cardinal to say their name. As friends said their name Alicia repeated each friend's name by saying hola (hello) and then the friend's name! Alicia continued by telling friends some of the things they will be learning in Spanish class!

The Cardinals each chose how their wanted to decorate they family's photo frame. Friends worked with paints, stickers, different color sequins, glitter and markers as they decided how to design their frames!!

                              Our displayed family photos!

Tuesday

                                   Morning Choice Time

We went to library class, Michelle and Ashanti, our lower school librarians, introduced themselves to us and we did the same. They went over the library rules with us such as using a quiet voice, how to check a book out and how to take care of books. Michelle then read us two books, There Is a Bird on Your Head and I Will Take a Nap by Mo Willems. These two books kept the Cardinals giggling!! Friends then got a chance to choose a book of their choice and brought it back to our classroom. These books will live on the bookshelf in our classroom and we will return them in a week. Please note that EC students do not bring library books home that will start in Kindergarten!

In PE class with Josh, our gym teacher, the Cardinals introduced themselves by saying their names. Josh then explained that today in class, we will have free choice of exploring with hula hoops, soft balls, rings and bean bags.  Ask your Cardinal what they like about Gym class?

While in gym class many Cardinals noticed the construction work happening outside the window! And so after gym class we went to take a closer look. The Cardinals were in awe as we watched 2 excavators, dump trucks and a front loader at work!!  Ask your Cardinal what is happening in the pictures?

Wednesday

Early this morning the Cardinals were off to have their pictures taken by professional photographers!! The Cardinals did a great job!! Yay Cardinals!!

Outdoor Exploration and Large Motor Fun

The Cardinals attend their first Art class with our Art teacher Johanna in the Art room. The Cardinals walked in and Johanna told us to look out the window and tell her what we saw. Friends had lots to say about what they saw. Johanna then asked friends to look at the ceiling and call out what they saw. After touring the art room, Johanna asked friends to sit so she can tell us what we will be doing today.  First, Johanna introduced herself and the Cardinals did a great job of introducing themselves as well. Today we worked with materials such as white paper, different color water pastel crayon, paint brushes and water as we created whatever our hearts desired! Friends did a great job creating their individual master pieces!  Ask your Cardinal what did you do in art class?

Thursday

Keisha, our Music teacher, came to our classroom for Music class today. Keisha introduced herself by saying her name and her favorite color. Each Cardinal then did the same as they went around our circle, nice job Cardinals!!  Keisha continued by playing her guitar and introducing the hello song. Friends echoed Keisha in singing Jambo which means hello in Swahili. We also sang hello in Spanish and French. We then continued singing Jambo to the trees, sun, friends, birds and the world! Keisha showed us the sign language signs for standing and sitting. The Cardinals then watched and did a great job following Keisha's directions! Ask your Cardinal what did you liked about Music class?

Friday

Today, the Cardinals went to the Spanish room and had Spanish class with Alicia, our Spanish teacher who we met on Monday of this week. Alicia greeted us in Spanish and continued to get to know us by asking our names! She then played a game she calls, "Switch-A-Roo", in which Alicia counts in Spanish to 5 with her eyes closed.  While Alicia counted, the Cardinals got up and quietly switched seats on the rug. Alicia then sees if she can remember friends' names. We played this game twice and Alicia did a great job of remembering the Cardinals names! The Cardinals had fun playing this game as they giggled and laughed!! Alicia continued by reading the book called Our Class is a Family (Nuestra clase es una Familia) by Shannon Olsen.

Alicia told us that at the end of each Spanish class a Cardinal friend will get to squeeze la vaca (the cow)! The cow only speaks Spanish.  The cow says Muchas Gracias! The Cardinals then replied De nada! Today it was Annie's turn to squeezed la vaca!
